It is an old saying. But it still holds good as far my profession is concerned. However perfect you fix the fracture, whatever due and diligence you take in treating a patient, at the end of the day forget about the bystanders, the patient does not have trust in you and that is the disaster. We have seen in many patients where they have suspicion in every aspect of treatment, something like 'VIP SYNDROME ' the treatment is likely to go in for bad results. Recently I had a patient who at every point of time was consulting all except me even though I was treating his wife for a fracture, and to my misfortune, there was a gross delay in healing of the surgical wound. I broke the syndrome!! thing by confronting him and counseling him about the harn he is doing by doing this and believe it or not the wound healed fully by the next 2 weeks!!! And the patient was mobilised earlier than usual. On the other end of spectrum, there was a geriatric patient who had a bad fracture of the leg with friable skin and near amputated finger . The trust they had in us healed both fractures by the way of surgery.
